Contemporary floral design has seen few interesting trends this year: exotic foliage has become as popular as flowers, flowers in a box seem to be making comeback, long-lasting flowers are becoming more popular gift choice, and young people seem to be discovering some beautiful flowers their parents did not appreciate, such as gladiolas, alstroemeria, and carnations. We are somewhat surprised to see that mason jars have become a perfectly acceptable choice for a vase, and in the spirit of re-use and recycle, all of us at Scent & Violet appreciate this practice. We see more and more people willing to stop by our shop and hand-pick the flowers for their carry-out bouquets, share a cup with us, and talk about neighborhood. Our local gardeners are turning more toward native Texan plants, organic gardening and heirloom vegetables. The new contemporary is becoming more and more about long-lasting, reusable, recyclable, environmentally and socially conscious – and we are loving it.
